Soundings [videorecording] / Gary Hill. [1979]

Soundings is a meditation on the phenomenology of sound, the translation of image into sound and of sound into image. In a series of ritualized actions, Hill buries, punctures, burns, and submerges a loudspeaker in water, physically altering or overwhelming the sound coming out of it, and effectively "imaging the sound, sounding the image."
